Using Wound Care Product
Surface Defects
Instructions for Use
1. Clean and moisten the wound with sterile water or mild saline solution. Leave the wound moist.
2. Moisten the black side of the Bauer Bandage with sterile water or mild, sterile saline. Place the black side of the bandage in contact with the wound surface. If the wound has high exudate, the bandage may be used dry. With medium exudate dampen the black side, apply the bandage, and dampen the white side. Apply a thoroughly damp bandage to a dry wound.
3. Keep the bandage in place against the wound surface with other light wrappings such as sterile gauze held in place with adhesive tape.
First bandage: approx 6 hours
Second bandage: approx 12 hours
Third bandage: approx 24 hours
Fourth bandage approx 48 hours
Subsequent bandages: approx 72 hours
NOTE: times between dressing changes may vary with the nature of the wound.
For deeper wounds follow the directions above. To make sure the carbon stays in direct contact with the wound surface (inside the wound), a wad of sterile gauze may be placed on top of the bandage, with a gauze wrapping and adhesive tape over that, to fix the dressing in place so the sorbent gently conforms to the wound base.
Eczema of surrounding healthy skin can be prevented by using zinc oxide creme, only on the skin surrounding the wound.
These bandages are sterile until opened. Use right away after opening.
During treatment, a few carbon fibers may need to be swabbed away when the dressing is changed, or these will show after the healing is complete.
Special Indication
The BAUER BANDAGE is sterilized with gamma-rays. Steam re-sterilization is possible.
DO NOT under any circumstances re-sterilize the sorbent using vapors of formaldehyde or
ethylenoxide.
Sorbent must not be stored together with organic solvents or in a space with polluted air (such as cigarette
smoke or other harmful agents).
Expiration
If the above storage requirements are observed, the product will be usable 5 years after the date of manufacture
in the original intact package.
